JAMES CUDJOE

Born September 1971

Educated at Ghanatta College of Art, Accra Cudjoe belongs to a long tradition of pastors/painters and painters/pastors that stretches back to Fra Angelico. Cudjoe is a full time artist and resident pastor at Holy Fire International Church, Cape Coast.

James Cudjoe has exhibited in Europe, Africa and in United States at the San Diego Museum of Man. He specializes in painting cityscapes of the harbour and oil city, Takadori and marine scenes of Elmina.

Elmina is a fishing town on the Gold Coast. Fishing is the predominant occupation and has been for the last four centuries. Discovered by Europeans, who built a castle to serve as a trading port, Elmina castle was later used as the holding ground and last place of departure for slaves being exported to Europe and the New World.

The castle, built over 400 years ago, still stands and serves as a tourist attraction. Elmina is no more a tiny village. It is a thriving town with fishing still the main occupation.
